How Do I :: Store 12x12 Paper
posted on: 4.15.2012
Well today has not been the best! It started off by finding out that my phone has been washed!!! I LOVE my phone because it is amazing! I had like $600 of music and apps and all that fun stuff on it. Now it's all gone :( Anyways, I'm happy I get to write this blog post so let the happiness begin!
I always get the question (ALWAYS) :: "How do you store your 12x12 pattern paper". When I first started scrapbooking I must have researched this for hours and hours because I was on the biggest budget + when you watch other peoples room tours you think you will have as much stuff as them. I do now but when I started (2 years ago) I barely had anything. 12x12 paper can be stored in a variety of different ways but you have to find what works good for you and roll with it.
I have watched a variety of videos from people storing there paper in folders to shelfs to baskets and so on but really there is no exact way of storing paper perfectly. I personally started off storing my paper on a shelf. I had it all stacked up and up and up and up until I needed more shelf space to expand. I then expanded into what I have today! I love LOVE LuV this type of storage. These 12x12 scrapbook paper drawer units I purchased at Walmart for like $12 a piece! I have a total of 2 of them which holds all my paper perfectly comfy! I also love how you can easily stack these and still open the drawers.
I store my paper by the brand just because I tend to pick and choose + I have really good memory when it comes to remembering my scrapbook product (nothing else really). So I can remember "O yah, I have that echo park paper" in which I can go to my echo park section and look for it. You can also store your papers by prints, colors, favorite > least favorite and so on. I personally think that storing it by brand is by far the best way to store paper. Here is a little breakdown of my brand storage (I spelled american crafts and bo bunny wrong, its hard to see on the photoshop grid background!) ::
How I love this storage. I tend not to pull from the top 2 shelves anymore because I like the 3rd, 4th and 5th shelves the most. So really its all up to you. I like this method of storage the best and I think I will always use it.
YAY! A giveaway! Lets see who read this post OK (lol)!! Leave a comment below to win one of my "April Crafting Kits" which is show to the left and can be purchased here. ReplyDeleteI store/categorize my paper by brand, too. Just like you, I can remember who made a paper more than I can remember much of anything else. I love those drawers, tho- I need to get something like that!

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a pretty great way to store your 12x12's, thanks for sharing and thanks for offering such a nice giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGreat storage idea Drew. I'm struggling to keep the colors separated, so maybe sorting by brand will work better.
ReplyDeleteDawn
I'd love to win Drew! It looks really nice!
ReplyDeleteI like that storage idea, I store in cropper hopper paper holders and by checks, circles, vintage, etc and I put it by color for the solids, not tagged but it is obvious with the colors. Love your pages you do. Awesome!!1

ReplyDeleteI Drew, I just Love All of your great ideas and vÃdeos. You are talent!!!!
ReplyDeleteIrene (Portugal)
I did read the post, because right now I'm looking into storage my papers and supplies. But here in Puerto Rico, Walmart does not bring this type of storage solutions. I will search in ebay.
ReplyDeleteI store some of paper in the WM drawer cabinets as well. They really do make for a great way to store 12x12 paper, perfectly! tfs, hugs, Violet
ReplyDeleteGreat Post! I really enjoy reading what you are up to. My SIL lives in Tehachapi, CA! Great place! I also store my papers by maker so that I can find it when I need it. I have way too much paper! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI use the same paper drawers for mine also, but don't have them by brand. Started out kind of as themes, but now, just a mess! LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks Drew for your storage idea. I have a lot of paper too. I love watching your show you have great ideas. Hope I win your kit. Thanks Elisha
ReplyDeleteI am the same way, one you tube video and blog after another. I think I have changed mine up about a million times now too. Sometimes I think I like to collect and organize as much as I like to scrapbook.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this idea Drew! I actually love this idea - safe storage for 12 x 12 paper - gotta love it! I could never do mine by brand because I cannot remember the companies - I just know what I like :) Thanks for the chance to win one of your beautiful kits!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of storing by brand, except that I am old and don't remember very well anymore :), so, that wouldn't work for me. :( I DO like the plastic drawers, as well, for storing. It keeps the edges a from getting bent. Thanks so much for sharing with us! Love your kit too! It would be awesome to win! :D
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about your phone. What a bummer! I like the way your store your paper. I store mine in an upright file holder and do it by theme. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing how you store your paper! I am stuggling now trying to find a better storage system, I have mine stacked on shelves and it does not work!!I love your idea!!

Hey Drew! I'm sorry to hear about your phone disaster. It's going to take a huge chunk of change and then some to replace what you lost. My deepest sympathy. Ha! I have resorted to vertical storage of my patterned papers. I like the ease of "fanning" through stacks of paper that are in an upright position. There is always the possibility that I will go back to horizontal storage, but for the time being, I am enjoying my current set up. Take care!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your storage solution! My papers are all in a stack right now (I don't have many), but I know I'll need to figure something else out eventually!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the storage tips Drew. I am going to have to look for something similar that fits 12x12. My current milk crate is so utterly disorganized I can never find anything.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Thanks for the opportunity to win a great kit!
Who reads? Are you kidding?! :-) I do read your posts because like your ideas. I've been looking for the same kind of storage that could hold 12x12 papers, too. I currently store my papers in a book shelf but it doesn't help me remember what products have, plus the corners would get crumpled.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
My 12 x 12 storage is horrible and I need to reorganize! I keep it basically by color and then keep my extra special favorites by themselves.
ReplyDeleteI love the storage you use!

ReplyDeleteGreat paper storage idea!!! I store my stacks in Jett Maxx cubes from Michael's.

I have been hoarding paper for at least ten years now and still don't have the perfect organization myself. Some on shelves some in boxes. Some in these cute wood creates. But amazingly I know every piece and it's place.
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog post, Drew! Love your method of storage! I too store my paper according to manufacturer and put the coordinating embellies with it! Love the new look on your blog! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog and ideas! You are such an inspiration. TFS!
ReplyDeleteRosie
Storing my patterned paper has always been a big problem for me. I can't decide whether to go by color, pattern or brand. But I think that your idea of going by brand is the best one I've heard. I have one of the Walmart drawer systems like you have, but I plan to go get another and give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI read it! I used to just file it in a paper storage box when I first started. Now, I like to scrap by brand, also,so I store it that way, too! I like to keep the collections together, too!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I have SO much paper...just can't help picking it up!:) I keep mine by colors and patterns. It works ok for now. Love your blog. Have a great week.

ReplyDeleteI love watching your videos, and your paper storage! I will have to try that out!!
ReplyDeleteI love storage ideas! I actually use to store my papers like this as well. While I loved how neat and organized it look it didn't work out long for me :p I have a horrible memory so I was constantly pulling out the drawers and making a mess searching for the right paper. I now keep them in those vertical files and it's easy for me to thumb the corner to find the perfect sheet to use :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this Drew:)) Wish I had the space to store my papers like this, because I have lots of it...lol! Thanks for the chance to win this awsome kit!
ReplyDeleteHi Drew, love those drawers you use, one more reason I wish we had wallmart here in Oz ;)

ReplyDeleteHugs, Jessica
Thanks for sharing your idea on paper storage. I do pretty much the same as you do. I like to store by brand name. My problem is that I have too much beautiful paper that I sometimes have trouble cutting into. Good luck with your iphone!
ReplyDeleteHi Drew! Love your ideas for paper storage..! I like to store mine vertically.. I think it may be easier to pull them out? Hehe.. not sure. Thanks for the chance to win! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Drew, love watching you on youtube! I'm still new to card making, but you make it look so easy! Share your creative brain with meh! =]
ReplyDeleteHi Drew,
ReplyDeleteI have been scrapbooking for about five yrs. and have changed the way I store all my 12x12's a few times. I do like your storage drawers, but I have so much paper I would need at least three of those drawer units. Yikes ! I need to not be such a "paper horder", but I love pattern paper. Thanks for letting me follow your blog. Love it!
Hi Drew,
ReplyDeleteI have thousands and thousands of sheets of paper. I store the majority of my paper vertically in Cropper Hopper paper keepers sorted by manufacturer and "collection" then placed on a shelving unit. I do have most of my large paper pads and blank card stock in horizontal storage cubes.
HI! I found your blog through your youtube channel. I love your videos! I have been looking to redo how I store my 12x12 paper and this is just great! Thank you so much!

Thanks for the chance to win!
This is pretty much how I store my papers, too. Great minds really do think alike. ;-) This is one of the nicest kit compilations I've seen. So full of graphic detail and yummy colors.
ReplyDeleteHi Drew! I haven't ever posted before.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted to say though that I love your work, and I am thrilled to see how you do things.
I store paper vertically in Project/Paper envelopes from I think cropper hopper (I got them at Joann's about 6 years ago). I have stored all the envelopes in a HUGE (34x13x14") storage bin that I got at Wal-Mart. It works really well for me. I sort by color for solids, then by types of prints in color sections, (geometric-in cool, warm and transitionals, etc.), and I put specialty papers in separate envelopes. I think there are about 15 in all. I like it because I can thumb throu and pull papers up a few inches and compare colors and print without having to refile. Since I rarely stick to one collection or brand this is ideal.
I don't remember who made most of it though :( so if I want to join a contest or something I have to go get new paper for it. YAY!!! Shopping for scrap products is so fun!
Melody
LOL, I store my paper same way. I found them a few months ago and I love how organized it is. I even have them each labeled by designer or theme
ReplyDeleteI have no form of organisation for my papers they just get dumped in a draw and pull them all out when i need them.
ReplyDeleteWhat an excellent idea! I have some 12 inch droors from target and it never crossed my mind :P Thanks for the idea and opportunity :D
ReplyDeleteHi Drew. Thanks for showing us your paper storage. I have some of those same drawers, some with paper, some with stickers, etc. And I love the new look of your blog. So glad you kept your picture on here! Maria
ReplyDeleteDrew, Great Storage for all your paper, I wish i had organisation and better storage. But i am limited to space.
ReplyDeleteShame about your Phone, i would of cried :( I do believe the rice helps, my son recently dropped his phone done the toilet and he put in rice over night and it worked.
Just found your blog ...and happy I did!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you washed your phone :( Sometimes it works, I've heard, to put it in a baggie full of rice? You know, to try and dry it out? Anyway, it can't hurt!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your giveaway. I have my patterned paper all over the place and clearly have accumulated FAR TOO MUCH over the past 12 years or so!
Drew - Yikes! So sad to learn about your phone! Love your blog and I'm totally going to try the Perfect Pearls Mist now.
ReplyDeleteI store paper like you do! By brand! As my paper collection grew, so did my storage issues. Like you, I use those 12 x 12 drawers and it works out great!

ReplyDeleteDrew I stored my paper the same way. I won't tell you how many I have.
ReplyDeleteYour paper storage looks so neat. I would need more than 2 unfortunately! Enjoyed your mist video also!
ReplyDeletehi Drew! I am new to your site as of Tuesday! I love it and your explanation about paper storage is a GREAT help to me....I'll be going to WalMart looking for those 12x12 storage drawers! Thank you for taking the time to do this site, I know it is going to be a tremendous help to me, and so many others too.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
Hey drew,
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a great opportunity, im kinda new to crafting, when you go into a craft shop you want everything, but the major problem....money, everything is too expensive. I LOVE reading your blog, and I love the idea of storing by brand...LOVE IT!
Aw they are super cute, you inspired me to try thickers!, they always look super cute!
ReplyDeleteYay! Giveaway! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteDrew, I just "found" you today while listening to various youtube tutorials on mini albums, while I was working. (Church secretary --- working on those Sunday bulletins and what not!)I thoroughly enjoyed your tour of your craft room. WOW!! AMAZING!!! I saw so many cute ideas that I can't wait to try in my own craft room / son's old room -- he grew up and moved to Cincinnati but he comes home a few times a year so I have to leave a bed in there so I don't have as much room! LOL! Am working my way thru your blogs and saw the giveaway. I'd love and would be honored to win! Now to finish working my way thru those videos and blogs! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome paper storage idea!! I had NO CLUE you could get something like that at Walmart and THAT CHEAP!!!! Right now all of my stuff is in a rolling suitcase....so if I ever run away from my children at least my scrap supplies are ready to come with me....forget the clothes....lol. Thanks forn a chance to win (that is if I haven;t missed it, just found this post today but have followed for quite a while....just been a bad blog reader lately!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm an expert with secure storage Perth, but my craft supplies have simply refused to be organized! This is a great storage solution that I just have to try.
ReplyDeleteI feel I have raided all comments so sorry if you answered this, but do you happen to know what brand these draws are Drew? I live in the UK and finding it very hard to find storage for 12x12 papers... I wanted some draws like this but they're all just that bit too small or massivley too big :( (not to mention the excessive cost over here for a bit of plastic!) Cheers Imogen xX
ReplyDelete
