How Do I :: Store Trims & Ribbon

posted on: 4.19.2012

Another "How Do I" post for you all! Today I will be talking about how I store my ribbons and trims. This is also a largely talked about topic among craft storage. Everybody has ribbon on spools, off spool in pieces and its just hard to keep track of it all and of course keep it organized. I have found that my method has worked pretty wonderful for me. I have really loved using this method and haven't had a problem at all!

Basically all I do is store my ribbons and trims in small wicker like baskets. These baskets were picked up very inexpensively at Marshall's. I think I got all 5 of them (3 hold my trims | 2 hold paper) for like $30. They are all fabric lined as well which makes it very nice for these trims because then they don't get stuck to the inside wicker stickers (hehe, like poking out wicker).

This is what my set up looks like. I have all of these baskets on my counter right under the window. In the larger basket on the left I store my name brand trims from Prima, Maya Road, Websters Pages and so on. In the basket on the right I store laces with no brand (normally vintage and thrift store finds). In the back basket I store all my ribbons. I have SOOOOOO many ribbons in that small back basket (at least 300+ yards). And then I filled in the blanks with a few other baskets which hold my 6x6 & 8x8 paper pads.

Lovely just Lovely! I love all the colors, textures and styles of the trims. I find they add a huge pop of color to my room. So yeah, that is basically how I store my trims. I actually do store more trims that are on rolls on a wire like shelf/basket unit thingy that is mounted to my wall. I need another because its way jam packed!

I hope you enjoyed this post. How do you store your trims & ribbons?

  1. Thanks so much for sharing. I love all your storage ideas. Question...For your name brand trims, do you take them out of the packaging when you get them to store them in the basket, or do you wait until you use them and then store the remnants in the baskets? If you wait, how do you store the unopened packages?

  2. I love this Drew! Most of my ribbons are on rolls that are in a drawer organized by color. My laces are rolled and are in a basket. My loose ribbons are rolled and are in a large jar so they look like candy :) I am working on organizing my room and this is all I have finished so far! But I love the look of these trims all mixed together! And the lined wicker baskets sounds perfect! Thanks for sharing :)

  3. Okay, I may have to try it your way! I have been so afraid that if I take them off of the spools I won't be able to find what I need, but they take up soooo much space on the spools. I have a whole DVD cabinet and three huge plastic tub drawers filled (plus other nooks and crannies) and I could really use that space for other things. TFS!

  4. I just recently wrapped them all around tags according to color and store them in a decorative trunk, your idea is great because you can see everything right away, tfs
