Photography // 9 grid zone (new blog design)

posted on: 9.03.2012

Hey there everyone! So to start this post off I would like to introduce my new blog design. I am still working on the sidebar so that is not completely done but I have a majority already done! I love it. So vintage yet modern! In my digital photo class I am taking, In class we were assigned to take 6 photos using the 9 grid zone. Basically the 9 grid zone is a way to make your photos' more interesting. If you were to draw lines down your photo into thirds in either direction (looks like a tic-tac toe board) you would basically want your main element/s to be on the intersection of the line or directly on one of the lines. The photo above shows how the start of each water tower is on a line as well as the tops of each water tower. The photo is much more interesting this way. Here are a few more samples.
I hope that gave a small tip for beginning photographers! Simply imagine a tic-tac toe grid over your camera screen and align your main focus on one of the intersecting lines or parallel to one of the lines.

  2. Thank you for the tip, and the great explanation of how to execute it! Your photos are fabulous! I love the leaf on the pebbles, and the fire hydrant. The black and white is excellent for those!
